History
Summarized history
Since its launching the through a government treaty between the federal republic of Germany and the French republic, the Deutsch-Französische Hochschulinstitut für Technik, und Wirtschaft (DFHI), also called the Institut Supérieur Franco-Allemand de Techniques d´Economie et de Sciences (ISFATES) in French, went through many developments. The DFHI made the adequate restructurings for its study offerings already in , in the same time when the LMD System (Licence, Master Doctorat) has been introduced in France. Each of the 11 French-German study offerings is giving the same Joint degree : Bachelor/Licence and Master instead of the so far Diplom and Maitrise.
The ISFATES was the first to offer the Franco-German studies. It is the oldest and so far the largest Franco-German cooperation in the provision of training and the number of its graduates.
The most important Phases
Signing of the accord for the creation of DFHI by the German and French foreign minister in Aachen the .
The first students finish their studies and receive the French and German certificate : the Doppelabschluss Diplom for the HTW, and the Licence from the university of Metz.
and The students can now also choose the course of studies between computer sciences and civil engineering.
Creation of the Förderverein
Restructuring of the educational offer of the studies structure: 4 years after the Gymnasium or Lycée
Students can now choose logistics as a subject
The DFHI/ISFATES celebrates its 35 jubilee with the moto a 35-year joint degree Metz-Sarrbrücken.

Logistics deals with the management (planning, management, execution and control) of material, exports/import and the associated information flows from procurement through production and storage to distribution. In other words, the value chain (supply chain) of a company, typically starting with the raw material suppliers and ending with the consumer should be controlled thoroughly. DIVA
The DIVA is the student association of the ISFATES. It is composed by students from different classes and years. They are helping the students. For instance, when the freshmen arrive, they are helping them to feel better at the school by organizing events like the integration week with funny games, or parties !
Also, they are responsible for student trips like the integration weekend, the DIVA work week-end, or even a little excursion to Europapark !
As said, the DIVA is composed of students, and every student can claim to be elected. However, there is a hierarchy, and currently, the DIVA is led by Pascal Hoffman, a student who is currently working on his Master degree.
You can find more information about the DIVA at diva.isfates.com
Integration week
Interview from L1 Students about the integration week
What Clemence Mailfert thought about the week
In my opinion, the integration week was crowned with success. I have met a lot of people of my promotion. I found it quite good, because at the beginning I knew nobody. People are awesome.I really appreciated the partys, especially the one in the CROUS, which was for me the best.If I could do the integration week again, I would !
What Alexander Chopin thought about the week
I was surprised, I thought the week would evolve in a more serious atmosphere, however I met great people.
What Miss Isfates (Anna Bauer) thought about the integration week
It was great to meet everyone, especially the ones who you are not in classes with. This week gave us the opportunity to discover the city, but also to have a glimpse of student life in Metz. At a party I was elected Miss Isfates, which made me very happy ! This week was really great and it allowed us to be less frightened about the Studies.
What was her first impression about studying at the Isfates
It is different from what I imagined, because the whole system seems to be very academic… however, it is funny, and we can learn to know other people very fast and so, a sense of community was rapidly created.
What mister Isfates (Antoine W.) thought about the integration week
I would say that everything was perfect ! We really had a good time. The whole week was well organized and it helped me to meet a lot of new people. The members of the DIVA are really nice persons.
What was his first impression about the studies at the Isfates
The beginning was a bit difficult, the program demands a lot of work… but I’m happy to be here.
Erasmus
Report of one's experiences
Interview with Caroline Janson, Lithuania
Why do you take part in the Erasmus program?
I wanted to get to know a new country and gather experience with people from all over the world and Europe.
How did you look for your destination country?
Hmmm ... I didn't really look for it, as the Isfates hasn't many partnerships.
What is your first impression? Have you already met new people?
First impression ... really there are several. At first few people speak English here ( principally young people ) and my Lithuanian isn't yet so good to speak to somebody. We have to speak Russian or Lithuanian in little shops or as I always do : communicate with hands and feet. First time at the supermarket : we could only buy beer in 0.5L bottles ( or bigger ), mostly on packs and in plastic bottles too ( !!! ), but I won't recommend the last option even to my arch-enemy. Vodka exists in all the colours and shapes and it's also good pure ;)Food looks sometimes very suspicious but it's (almost) delicious all the time ! Life is here rather cheap.

The town Kaunas is the second-biggest of Lithuania. It's pretty and there is always something to do. Lithuanian don’t have a sense of the detail and don't seem to always think in a practical way. When we see some balconies we wonder if they won't collapse and most houses don't have any doubble gazing and let alone PVC windows ( last winter we had -32°C). We have to collect our student card in a travel agency and Mac Donalds is called here Hessburger. We met here new people all the time. The other student of Erasmus are from Turkey, Latvia, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Italy etc. All of them are really nice and we understand us very well.
How is exactly your stay abroad organized?
We have now our timetable and only 8 hours per week. But I am most convinced that we will have lots of homework ;). All the program is in English and we are only with Erasmus students so that we were only two at the school class today. It can be explained by yesterday's evening. Until now we had two integration weeks during which many of us visited Kaunas and learnt a little Lithuanian.
Interview with Hélène Choteau, Prague Czech Republic
Why did you choose to participate to Erasmus program?
I wish principally to discover new things, to met new people from all around the world and to improve my English. I am convinced that this experience will be very enriching for me and my professional career.
Why did you choose Prague?
There was unfortunately not much choice. I was already to Prague for a few days and I liked it very much so I didn't hesitate to choose this partnership. Prague is a very cosmopolitan town! Most of the people that I met are very helpful and speak English very well. The Erasmus students are very open too and are from all over the world ( Vietnam, Turkey, Finland, Germany, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Poland, Hungary, France ...). The life ( food, accomodation... ) is cheaper than in Western countries. There are many touristic places and German signs in the town centre. It's finally a very good transition after Sarrebruck.
You said that you speak English a lot. Are your lessons in english too? Or are some lessons in German?
All of the lessons are in English here. We choose a subject in keeping with our course option with the objective to obtain at a minimum 30 ECTS points at the end of the semester.
How long and till when does your stay last?
I participate to the Erasmus program for around four month ( from to ).
